5. Key ITIL Practices
6. Other ITIL Practices
The full length of the ITIL 4 Foundation certification program is 24hrs.
ITIL 4 Foundation is the entry-level certification in the ITIL 4 framework, introducing key concepts like the Service Value System (SVS), the Four Dimensions of Service Management, guiding principles, and ITIL practices—ideal for anyone involved in IT service management.
ITIL v3 certifications remain valid and useful, but ITIL 4 is the latest version and offers a more modern, flexible approach. If you're serious about progressing in ITSM, it's strongly recommended to take the full ITIL 4 Foundation exam, even if you already hold v3 certification.
There are no formal prerequisites—anyone (including beginners, IT staff, support personnel, and managers) can enroll. It’s appropriate for both newcomers to IT service management and those looking to update from older versions.
The exam is a multiple-choice test consisting of 40 questions, with a 60-minute time limit. You need to score at least 65% (commonly 26 correct answers) to pass—there’s no penalty for wrong answers, so it's best to answer all questions.
The main shifts include:
Moving from a service-lifecycle model to a Service Value System (SVS) and Service Value Chain
Replacing "processes" with broader practices (34 in total)
Introducing the Four Dimensions Model and 7 guiding principles
Incorporation of modern working approaches like Agile, DevOps, Lean, and focus on continual value creation.
